Sōgo Roll Bar is a collaboration between David Gibbs, Kiminobu Saito and Aya Makino of Sushi Note and Dustin Lancaster and Sarah Dietz of An Eastside Establishment. Dustin and Sarah’s long-time experience on this block with Bar Covell and Hotel Covell gave them a unique perspective on what food the neighborhood was missing. After months of lamenting the lack of sushi options nearby, an offhanded conversation at Sushi Note quickly began what became Sōgo Roll Bar. Creating hand roll variations of the distinctive and high-quality flavors that have quickly made Sushi Note a city-wide favorite, the menu is unique and inviting.
With the goal of immediately becoming a neighborhood mainstay, Sōgo Roll Bar is designed to be an easy go-to for any type of meal. Enjoy a delicious lunch or dinner of hand rolls at the sushi bar, or grab cut rolls to-go when time is tight.
Kiminobu Saito was born in Yamagata Prefecture, Japan, and moved to Los Angeles in 1980. Over the span of the next twenty years, Saito San worked his way up the restaurant world, building a tremendous reputation, with the pursuit of opening his own sushi restaurant always on his mind.
After gaining the last bit of necessary experience at Nobu of Malibu, Saito San opened his own restaurant, 4 on 6, in 2001. A Valley cult favorite, 4 on 6 was a success story for 15 years until personal reasons forced Saito San to sell the business.
After a brief break from sushi, during a stint at Sushi of Gari, he reconnected with Dave Gibbs, a longtime lover of 4 on 6. They quickly decided to get Saito San back preparing fish his own way, and soon after opened Sushi Note in Sherman Oaks.
The perfect balance between quick-service and elevated flavors, Sōgo Roll Bar is the casual counterpart to Sushi Note. Serving hand roll variations of the sushi Saito San has been known for throughout his career, each roll is unique and flavorful.
